U.S. Tariffs on Canadian Exports

On June 29, 2018 the Government of Canada announced it would make available up to $2 billion to defend and protect the interests of Canadian workers and businesses in the steel, aluminum and manufacturing industries. Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC)
BDC has made available a commercial financing envelope of up to $800 million over two years for eligible steel and aluminum small and medium-sized enterprises with viable business strategies to expand into new markets, increase operational and environmental efficiency, or purchase new technology and equipment. Export Development Canada (EDC)
EDC is making up to $900 million in commercial financing and insurance available over the next two years, to assist viable companies in the steel and aluminum sectors and related industries. For more information visit EDC’s website, call 1-888-220-0047 or write to tradeadvisor-conseiller@edc.ca .

Strategic Innovation Fund – ISED
In response to additional tariffs imposed by the United States, up to $250 million in additional support is now available through the Strategic Innovation Fund managed by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. These funds are intended to help bolster the competitiveness of Canadian manufacturers and better integrate the Canadian supply chain of steel and aluminum.

CanExport

Finance Canada

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)
CBSA provides the following programs to assist with customs duties:

  1. Drawback Program: Refund of customs duties paid for imported goods
  2. Duty Relief Program: Exemption of customs duties (conditions apply)
