technologyEducation and Knowledge-based Industries

Kingston is considered a preferred investment destination for knowledge-based industry according to the government-funded Institute for Prosperity & Competitiveness.

So it is not surprising that Kingston is emerging as a centre for research and technology.  We have the infrastructure, institutional linkages and intellectual capital making Kingston fertile ground for innovation and commercialization.

Kingston is home to:

  • 30 independent research laboratories
  • a number of research institutions such as CMC Microsystems
  • a major regional centre for tertiary health care
  • PARTEQ Innovations, the commercialization arm of Queen´s University, has led the country for over a decade in transferring research to the private section
  • SWITCH, a group of businesses, research institutions and others working to make Kingston a centre for alternative energy
